By 1932, Comercial Puig had already established itself as a pioneer in cacao exportation from Ecuador.

Carlos Puig was known for his love of fine food, especially seafood, and his signature white clothing. His life philosophy was simple: «Live life as best as possible» and «Don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want done to you.»

Throughout his life, he received several honors. He served as President of the Guayas Sporting Federation.

Our legacy begins generations ago with a familiar trading enterprise. With Carlos Puig, a pioneer in the world of Ecuadorian cacao, creating roots for a new legacy.

Carlos Alberto Puig Arosemena was born on June 23, 1897, the sixth child in his family. As a child, he was energetic, playful, and had a strong appetite. Like his older siblings, he traveled to Barcelona for school, where he completed his primary and elementary education. During those years, he excelled not only academically but also in sports—learning to play football, box, and swim.

Upon returning to Guayaquil, he briefly pursued medical school but eventually left to join his father’s company. Founded in the previous century, the business was one of Ecuador’s most respected trading enterprises. Carlos later married and became the proud father of three daughters.

By 1932, Carlos Puig was later recognized for his contributions to the Cacao Industry, becoming President of the Association of Cacao Exporters.

After a life of accomplishments, Carlos Puig passed away at the age of 88 on May 19, 1985.

Thanks to our multi-generational journey with cacao, we have preserved our family’s exclusive fermentation process—achieving over 85% fermentation—to bring out the rich, distinctive flavors that define our product.

Nowadays Carlos Puig's great-grandson, Jaime Alarcón, leads the fourth generation of the family in revitalizing a unique and refined cacao recipe—one that brings out the full expression of Ecuador’s native cacao varieties, while honoring the ancestral knowledge behind each bean.

Today, as a direct descendant of Papa Carlos (Great-Grandson) and with whom I shared hobbies and anecdotes until I was 10 years old, I have the responsability of continuing his legacy...
